Create Healthy Habits the Okinawan Way

Okinawan
Indigenous wisdom

My name is Stephanie Ermel and I’m from the Blue Zone Okinawa, Japan, also known as, “the island of immortals.”  Okinawans are the longest-living people on earth and on Okinawa we have a saying, “Isha hanbun, yuuta hanbun,” which means that health requires treatment from both a doctor and a shaman.  You cannot separate the physical body from your spiritual and emotional well-being.

What we eat determines the quality of our thoughts and feelings, getting proper rest motivates us to move.  Our connection with ourselves impacts our relationships with others.  With depression, anxiety, and lifestyle diseases on the rise, I believe that the answers can be found in this indigenous wisdom.
